Many people are confused about how to take cannabis oil. We have tried to make the process as simple and easy as possible.
Firstly, we need to emphasise that our cannabis oil is made from cannabis (not hemp) and thus contains THC as well as CBD (and a variety of other cannabinoids). Whilst we know that CBD in itself has a therapeutic effect, experience shows us that its range is limited, both in the amount it helps, and the time period it still works in. Combining THC and CBD together greatly improves the medicinal effect of either. 2 + 2 = 5!!
But THC is the psychoactive element of cannabis – this means its the chemical which gets people “high”! And cannabis oil is highly concentrated so the amount necessary to take on a daily basis to treat many illnesses would leave most medical users extremely stoned.
This is of course something we need to avoid.
Dosing and cannabis oil
Every individual and every illness has its own level where there is a correct daily dosage of cannabinoids to effectively reduce symptoms and improve life.
Thanks to experience over a wide range of problems, we normally can evaluate what the optimum daily dosage should be. HOWEVER, due to the mental effects of THC, we would never start a new member at this dose. Instead we follow a regime of tolerance building to get each medical member used to the psychoactive effects of THC.
Diluting cannabis and encapsulating
We dilute high quality and lab tested cannabis oil with a neutral carrier oil (normally organic hemp seed oil) to various ratios and put into capsules for easy dosage.
New members start with pills containing 1 part oil to 80 parts hemp oil (80:1) for up to 10 days. At this high dilution there is very little therapeutic effect but it does allow us to check for an anxious reaction and starts the process of tolerance building.
The second stage is a 40:1 ratio pill, normally for 2 weeks – 30 days. Towards the end of this period most people experience a better quality of sleep, some improvement in pain management, and a slight lessening of other symptoms.
Depending on the individual, the next step is to either remain at this level or increase to a 20:1 ratio.
Some conditions e.g. COPD, see a most effective improvement at a 10:1 ratio, whilst others, such as arthritic pain depend greatly on the level of arthritis but also on the history of pain killers used over a period of time. Always the individual’s personal history and experience must be taken into account.
Cannabis Oil is not a “quick fix”
If you have a headache, you take a paracetamol and expect your symptoms to reduce within a few hours. Taking cannabis oil is not like this. Aside from taking a few weeks to build up tolerance and reach the correct dilution ratio for you, you also need to build up a level of cannabinoids in your system to work effectively .
if you are thinking of using cannabis oil as a medicine, you should allow at least a 6 week period in order to evaluate if it is right for you.
How to take cannabis oil
We making taking the correct daily dose easy by diluting and putting in capsules.
We suggest that you take the pills approximately 12 hours before you want to wake in the morning. Oil is processed through the liver in several cycles over a 12 hour period. The first cycle is quite mild and relaxing, which is appropriate for bedtime. By going to bed during this first cycle, you should sleep through the rest of the psychoactive effects.
Please note that alcohol and cannabis oil increase the effects of each other. Yes you can drink and take oil but you will both get drunk more quickly and be more stoned! Also read
